What kind of place is Nijo Market?

How did it come about?
Nijo Market is said to have its origins in the early Meiji era when fishermen from Ishikari Beach went up the Ishikari River and sold fresh fish in this area. Some of the fish sellers who were originally located on Nishi 1-chome on the opposite bank of the Soseigawa River opened stores on the east side across the Soseigawa River, forming the “Jusan Association” of 13 shops, and the beginning of today’s Nijo Market. Overcoming the big fire
In 1902, the market was hit by a huge fire, and the entire area was reduced to ashes. After that, the land remained vacant for nearly a year, but it was rebuilt by volunteers. In 1910, the market expanded to Higashi 2-chome and became a specialty of Sapporo.
