Kirishima Shrine (霧島神宮, Kirishima Jingū) is a historic Shinto shrine located in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the most important shrines in the Kyushu region, celebrated for its spiritual significance, beautiful natural surroundings, and historical architecture.

History and Significance:

1. Historical Roots:
   • The shrine’s origins are tied to the mythological figure Ninigi-no-Mikoto, the grandson of the sun goddess Amaterasu, who is said to have descended to Earth on Mount Takachiho in the Kirishima mountains. This event is known as the “Tenson Kōrin” and marks the beginning of Japan’s imperial lineage.
