Ubusuna no Sato TOMIMOTO is the birthplace of Living National Treasure Tomimoto Kenkichi. Tomimoto learned design from nature, saying “don’t create culture from culture,” and used his original techniques. He was recognized as the first Living National Treasure and received the Order of Culture. His crafts are still loved by people today, not just for decoration, but as crafts that people can use in their daily lives. In a relaxed atmosphere, you can experience the story of Tomimoto Kenkichi and the eternal history and nature of Yamato with all your senses, and think about the future. That is Ubusuna no Sato TOMIMOTO.
“Ubusuna no Sato TOMIMOTO” is located near Horyuji Temple. In a relaxed atmosphere, you can enjoy a “painting experience” while feeling the eternal history and nature of Yamato with all five senses. Choose your favorite unglazed pottery that can be used daily, such as a plate, cup, or teacup, and paint it using blue and white glaze and color underpainting.
