“Established in the Kansei era! A long-established eel restaurant “Nodaiwa”
Godaime Nodaiwa is a famous eel restaurant located in Iikura, Minato-ku, Tokyo. This is a popular restaurant that many gourmet connoisseurs will know about, and it is a long-established restaurant that was founded in the Kansei era of the Edo period (1789-1801), during the era of the 11th Shogun Tokugawa Ienari.
In 1957, the fifth generation took over the restaurant, and since then, it has continued to be known as “Fifth Generation Nodaiwa” and is still a popular restaurant that has been selected as one of the 100 famous Tabelog restaurants many times.
It was so prosperous that it was ranked 3rd in the “Toto Food Guide” in 1888.
The interior of the store has a retro and calm atmosphere. ”

Mr. Kanemoto is the fifth-generation owner of the store. His attitude of sparing no effort and honestly facing cooking is also reflected in his habit of starting preparation at 4:30 in the morning. For each eel, the method of cooking and grilling is exquisitely changed, and the skill of bringing out the flavor of the ingredients is well received by foodies. I would like to enjoy his unique eel dishes, which are woven with free ideas while preserving tradition.

In order to provide high-quality dishes, we mainly use carefully selected domestic eels. The eel, which is dressed in a sauce that has been protected since its founding and grilled with the heat of binchotan charcoal, is a staple of the restaurant. On the other hand, there are many fans of eel dishes, which are faithful to the basics but are arranged by incorporating caviar into shirayaki and finishing it in a hot pot dish. All of them are exquisite with a rich eel flavor.

The restaurant has a wide variety of wines that go well with eel dishes. The owner himself says, “It is important to see and experience with your own eyes,” and based on the knowledge he acquired by visiting French wineries, he has carefully selected a wide range of famous sake. One of the charms of the restaurant is that you can enjoy a meal while talking about wine with the owner standing in the kitchen.

I have the impression that it is a refreshing eel. The way the fat rides differs depending on the time of year, but it seems to be at the end of the natural season. The sweetness is perfect for me, so I think it’s gentle on my stomach even if I eat more. I think it has a light taste, including white grilling, but it has a gentle taste without being persistent at all. I really like grated radish with chopsticks.

If you hold it with chopsticks, it will crumble quickly. You often sauce it with this softness. The grilling is a little weak, and the steaming is of course deep. There is no excess fat on the body, and it is soft and melt-in-your-mouth. Before, it was kind of like flakes, but this time it was moist and good.

Although it is in front of Edo, it is mellow and has a pleasant aftertaste. There are no corners, but the soy sauce is not unsatisfactory, and it complements the eel and the rice progresses. The feeling of unity with the eel is also wonderful. The aroma is good, and the sauce here is a good balance. Somehow, I feel that the main store is the first.
