    CULTURE WORKSHOP Details

Kameya Yoshinaga was founded in 1803, and its first owner, Bunpei, chose this location in search of the “Samegai Water” that springs from in front of the store.
Since then, for about 220 years, we have been making Kyoto sweets using this famous water as one of our ingredients.
We will continue to appreciate the blessings of nature and cherish the traditions of Kyoto, while making sweets that will please and make our customers happy in the times.

Kyoto sweets that will please people living today

Kameya Yoshinaga offers sweets for every season throughout the year, from traditional Japanese sweets to playful ones.
We accept what our customers want, expand our ingredients and techniques, appreciate tradition, and create sweets that are close to our customers.

    The famous water “Samegai Water”

Water is one of the important factors that determine the taste of Japanese sweets.
Using good quality water brings out the aroma of ingredients such as red beans and rice cakes, resulting in a simple and refined taste.
At Kameya Yoshinaga, we use the water from Samegai, which gushes forth from in front of our store, in our sweets.
*You can fill up some of Kyoto’s famous water, “Samegai Water,” and take it home with you. Please feel free to use it.

Techniques and tools inherited from the Edo period

We still treasure the tools that have been handed down from the Edo period.
The recipe book for our famous confectionery “Uwatama” is written in the recipe book, and that knowledge and technique are still used in our current confectionery making.
We work hard every day to make new confectionery while feeling the breath of the people of that time.

A hands-on class to make seasonal Japanese confectionery and enjoy it with tea

Kyoto has long been a place where artisans in various fields have cultivated traditions.
Why not experience the world of Japanese confectionery, one of those traditions?
