Feel the old and create something new in a 118-year-old Kyoto Machiya.

The 118-year-old Kyoto Machiya Experience Workshop Waraku is located on the west side of the famous Kyoto tourist spot, Sanjusangendo, directly opposite the building. Why not try making your own “Kyoto hairpins”, “washi earrings”, “Yu-maki Kyoto lanterns”, “Katakara Yuzen”, “Kinsai Yuzen”, “Incense”, “Ear picks”, “Chopsticks” and more in this nostalgic space? Kyoto hairpins are made with the skill of a master craftsman using bamboo from Kyoto that is 200 years old and made with great care and attention by Kyoto bamboo craftsmen.

They are used in period dramas and kabuki plays, and are also used by maiko.
Not only the experience but also the museum-quality indoor exhibits are popular with students on school trips and customers from overseas. You can also make your own hairpin to accompany you on your strolls around Kyoto, which has been well received. The Japanese goods and bamboo crafts of the Kyoto brand “Waraku,” which are carefully and lovingly handmade one by one, are also popular. Please feel free to visit “Kyoto Machiya Experience Workshop Waraku,” which is within walking distance of JR Kyoto Station.
