Even now, after more than a thousand years, the streets still feel like an ancient capital. On the approach to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in Kyoto, there is the “Maiko Experience Studio Shiki and Rental Kimono Shiki Sakura”.

At Shiki, we study and pursue “commitment to beauty,” “commitment to customer service,” and “commitment to memories” every day, and we strive to provide hospitality so that you can enjoy the splendor of Kyoto’s four seasons.

Shiki’s makeup is beautiful in a different way.

We learn the techniques of traditional maiko and geisha and use the same cosmetics, but we also incorporate modern makeup and cosmetics to improve our skills every day to see how we can provide our customers with beauty. By incorporating modern makeup into the traditional maiko makeup, we can express a more gorgeous and translucent beauty, with a fine, silky white makeup, red lipstick on the mouth, and a delicate and careful finish on the eyes, providing each and every customer with a noble beauty. *All cosmetics and face washes are fragrance-free and additive-free.

Shiki Wigs have different technical skills.

All plans include a full wig, but we can also do a half wig at the customer’s request. A half wig is a wig that the maiko has a hairdresser spend hours tying for her hair and leaves it like that for about a week. When sleeping, she can’t wear anything but a front-opening outfit and can’t wash her hair, but a half wig makes it easy to tie up. (It looks more natural than a full wig.) We use the customer’s front hair and then attach the wig, so the hairline looks natural and it looks like the hair is really tied up. Of course, it requires considerable skill and experience, but we use real half wigs, which require skill and experience. A full wig will look natural, but it depends on your facial features and head shape, so please consult with our staff when you visit (we also have a space where you can wash your hair). A half wig costs an additional 2,100 yen (excluding tax).

The beauty of seasonal kimono is different.

All of the 100 or so kimonos are made of genuine silk and are hand-embroidered and hand-sewn, so you can choose your favorite kimono from among them. A kimono dresser will dress you like a real maiko. *The price will be the same regardless of which kimono you choose.

Shiki photography has a different sense.

Under the guidance of a professional photographer, our camera staff always maintain a professional attitude and place importance on not only photography techniques but also on how to interact with customers and hospitality, striving to take heartfelt photos. Even first-time customers can enjoy the photo shoot without tension and feel like they are models. The finished photos will be better than you can imagine.

Important notice
* Only women aged 13 and over can experience the maiko experience at Shiki for all plans. (Men can also experience the Samurai Couple Plan and Samurai Plan)
* Girls aged 5-12 will be able to use the Child Maiko Plan, Parent-child/Sister Plan, and boys the Child Samurai Plan.
* Previously, we would accept male maiko experiences as an exception, but we are no longer able to accept them.
