The building was built in the Taisho era, preserving as much of its structure as possible, and using traditional construction methods and materials to restore the original style.
It is one of the largest modern Japanese-style buildings in Fukuoka City, and is a valuable building that conveys the history of the heyday of the coal industry.
It was registered as a Fukuoka City registered cultural property in May 2017.
