On April 29, 2016, the Kyoto Railway Museum, where you can experience the history of Japan’s modernization through the history of railways, opened in Kyoto, a city that respects tradition but continues to innovate. The basic concept of our museum is “a hub of railway culture that works hand in hand with the local community.” Our basic mission is to “contribute to regional revitalization through railway-based business activities,” and our aim to coexist with the local community.

As a museum, we collaborate with the local community through school education, surrounding facilities, etc., contributing to the revitalization of the local area, and becoming a “place of relaxation” that is widely accepted by everyone, as well as a place where people can “see, touch, and experience.” We aim to be a “place of learning” that everyone can enjoy.

In addition, based on the history of railways built by our predecessors, we will work to inherit, develop, and create the safety, technology, and culture of railways, and strive to spread the social significance of the railway business while also instilling a rich sense of sensibility. We will create a museum that can play a part in a society full of intelligence.

As a comprehensive railway museum, a wide range of customers, not just railway fans, can enjoy and learn more about railways through the creation of a place to convey railway safety and technology, guided tours by museum staff, and workshops held within the museum by JR West employees. We will carry out various cultural activities that will help you understand deeply. Furthermore, we will systematically collect and preserve materials that are the core of museum activities, strive for research and research, and focus on exhibitions and educational activities that create excitement and inspiration, as well as support the preservation and inheritance of railway cultural heritage. I will do my best to fulfill my role. Please look forward to the future activities of the Kyoto Railway Museum.
