What is Otaru Sankaku Market?

Otaru Sankaku Market is located between Otaru Station and National Route 5. The name comes from the triangular shape of the land and roof.
It began around 1945, when seven or eight street vendors opened their shops in front of Otaru Station. After that, more and more vendors opened the market, and it became a popular morning market, attracting both visitors and shoppers from the nearby Ishikari and Koshi regions, as well as from as far as the Kamikawa and Hidaka regions.

In May 1955, a voluntary association was established with over 30 street vendors, and the current market was also constructed. Later, in July 1963, a cooperative association for small and medium-sized enterprises was established at the request of association members.
Based on legal regulations, 41 members established the Otaru Station Market Association, which continues to operate today.

Enjoy shopping at Triangle Market!

Sankaku Market, a 2-minute walk from Otaru Station, has 16 shops lined up on both sides of a narrow 200-meter-long, 2-meter-wide slope with aisles in between, with the motto of “Really Cheap!!”.
You can buy seafood such as crabs, sea urchins, scallops, and fish, as well as vegetables, fruits, and daily necessities, so it’s very convenient for everyday shopping and when choosing souvenirs!
