    Takahashi Farm’s Thoughts: Cowherding continues to experience hardships

    Mamoru Takahashi started his career in dairy farming when he was 20 years old.

    It all started when he entered a cattle contest called “Kyoshinkai” with the help of his family and siblings.

    The cow that his brother pulled was highly praised and won the championship, and he received a cup, a plaque, and a championship flag, and he simply thought, “This would be a good business,” and shifted from working in the fields to full-time dairy farming.

     

     

    However, they soon faced the reality that milk prices (the purchase price of milk) were low. At that time, there was a time when we fought against milk prices by sending milk into the river. What made it even worse was that his precious cows died one after another.

     

     

    “Shall I stop being a cowherd?”

    With the desire to produce good quality cows, he had carefully selected and inseminated the cows, and the cows he had looked forward to growing up died for unknown reasons. He even thought to himself, “Maybe I should quit being a cattle farmer,” and spent all his days caring for his patients.

     

     

    It was later discovered that the cows had died from poisoning due to the nitrogen fertilizer they had applied to harvest a large amount of grass to feed the cows.

    “If you don’t cultivate good soil and grow high-quality pasture, you can’t produce good cattle.”

    From this experience, ranch owner Mamoru Takahashi’s passion for “creating soil, cultivating grass, and cultivating cattle” became stronger.

    “This is not interesting at all. I want people to properly evaluate the milk that comes from the cows that I have worked so hard to raise.” So I started researching how to make processed products.
